Stranger Things is one of Netflix's most successful series of all time - but fans have been left outraged after learning that its final season may not hit the streaming platform until 2025.

The uproar was sparked after a popular Stranger Things insider account on Twitter, called Stranger News, shared a picture of a fan art poster, which was made by artist Axel Almiron, and stated in their tweet that: 'The end is coming. 2025.'

Almiron's poster, which features an image of central character Will Byers (played by Noah Schnapp) seemingly stirred up a swathe of excitement among dedicated followers of the show - but that joy soon turned to horror when they spotted the date listed in the accompanying tweet.

Although Netflix has yet to announce an official premiere date for Stranger Things season five, many fans responded to the tweet in outrage, admitting that they had assumed they'd get their final fix of the show by the end of 2024.

Stranger Things fans have been left outraged after learning that the latest and final installment of the series might not debut until 2025

Fans were absolutely gutted to learn the premiere date for Stranger Things would not be for another two years.

'2025?? That's a bit of a joke,' one fan tweeted angrily.

'Are u serious?!!!!! No way, I can't wait,' another fumed, while a third wrote, '2025 is crazy imma be dead.'

Many viewers were outraged since it was last speculated that season five would drop next year.

'I thought it was 2024!!!!!!!' one exclaimed.

'Wait what? 2025? Wasn't it 2024 before, it must be very long season this time, about 40 or so episode,' another wondered.

'Brooooo you said 2024 several months ago (which was already a long time to wait) and now you say 2025 that's too much,' a third fumed. 'In five months you will tweet and say that it's coming in 2026.'

Some fans joked that the Hawkins kids will be all grown up by the time the season finally airs.

Many viewers were outraged since it was last speculated that season five would drop next year

'Omg those kids are gonna be 30 by then,' one quipped.

'Of course the end is coming. The entire cast will be dying of old age by the time you get to release this,' another teased.

Others, however, complained about the series' continued pattern of delayed season release dates.

'NOT 2025 WHY DO WE HAVE TO WAIT MULTIPLE YEARS FOR EACH SEASON??? ridiculous,' one remarked.

'Season four released in mid 2022,' another noted. 'How the f**k a series takes more than two years to release a new session when its a hit.'

But fans on the other side of the coin were quick to point out that the Writers Guild of America strike - which began on May 2 - is only just nearing its end with a tentative deal penned.

At the time, the show's creators, the Duffer Brothers, tweeted to inform fans that the show's filming would be put on pause until the strike had been resolved.

'Duffers here. Writing does not stop when filming begins,' they wrote on May 6.

But fans on the other side of the coin were quick to point out that the Writers Guild of America strike - which began on May 2 - is only just nearing its end with a tentative deal penned

'While we're excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike. We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then -- over and out.'

Soon after that announcement, SAG-AFTRA members announced that they were also going on strike, which left many of the stars of the show unable to film. That strike has yet to be resolved.

Therefore, filming - which the creative team has claimed will take a year - still hasn't kicked off and then there is editing, which is also a time consuming process.

'You guys need to understand with the filming, the strike, and the editing, it will take time,' one user tweeted.

'It's writing strike problems. We can't do anything about it. They can't do anything about it. I will anticipate the wait and be ready when it comes!' another noted optimistically.

'All y'all who are like "omg 2025!!!" Y'all need to wake up. There's been a strike for writers and actors and ain't nobody has stared on this show yet,' a third wrote.

They added: 'Lucky if we get it in 2025. To be honest we're looking at maybe early 2026. Filming takes a year and they still need to write the episodes!'

As for what to expect for season five, Matt Duffer has teased that the show will go back to its strong foundation formed in season one

Stranger Things star David Harbour also spoke about the upcoming season, teasing to Collider that he expects fans will have a lot to look forward to with the show's final season

As for what to expect for season five, Matt Duffer has teased that the show will go back to its strong foundation formed in season one.

'That's what we anticipate and hope to do, which is to just to keep it contained in Hawkins. It's going to feel a lot larger in scale than season one,' he said on a 2022 episode of the Happy Sad podcast.

'We want to go back to a lot of things we did in season one and a lot of the original groupings and pairings we had in season one.'

Stranger Things star David Harbour also spoke about the upcoming season, teasing to Collider that he expects fans will have a lot to look forward to with the show's final season.

'I know those Duffer brothers are very specific, and I know they want to get that last season,' he shared.

'I mean if you look at season four, I have a feeling that season five may not be as long, but it certainly will be packed to the brim with good stuff that you love.

'I mean, they really are getting better at giving you that home run that the audiences love. And I think that season five will do that so much.'
